Harley announces dealerships for India, Bookings to Start from April

Legendary bike maker Harley Davidson has announced its dealerships for India. The dealerships will be opened in 5 cities viz. Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chandigarh and Hyderabad. Harley will be offering 12 models from its 2010 line-up with prices ranging from Rs. 6.95 to Rs. 34.95 Lakhs. The bookings will start from April and deliveries will start from June. The company started the dealer selection process in September last year. A total of 100 applications for the dealerships were received by the company out of which these 5 have been selected. All the 12 models will be imported from US as CBU’s.

TVS to launch unisex “Wego” this Month

TVS will be launching its new scooter "wego” in phases all over the country, starting this month. The metal bodied scooterette will have an unisex styling. So it’ll be fit for driving for drivers from both the sexes.

Hero Honda to launch 14 new models

Bike major Hero Honda will be launching 14 new models in India in the next 18 months which will include 4 all-new products with 4 major variants and 5 minor variants. Hero Honda is targeting a sales figure 5.6 million units for the next fiscal and an overall growth of 15 percent.

TVS Apache 220 coming soon!

   The Apache RTR 180

Taking cue from other bike manufacturers’, TVS will soon introduce a power-centered bike for enthusiasts in India – the Apache 220. It will have a 220 cc engine (as the name suggests) and is expected to produce 22 bhp with a top speed of 150 kmph.

The production of the bike will start in February 2010, i.e this month and it will hit the showrooms sometime around April 2010 with a price tag of about Rs 95,000.

After photos of the new Yamaha FZ8 leaked out on the internet, Yamaha thought it was wise to release an official photo of the FZ8 in it’s full colorful form. As is visible from the picture, the Yamaha FZ8 is based heavily off of the FZ1, which may suggest where its performance features. (Internet rumors suggest the 800cc mill will be a downsized version of the former R1 engine with an identical stroke and smaller bore) The official unveiling is scheduled for March 12. A little more wait till the specs get confirmed.

Bajaj sells 200 Kawasaki Ninja's in India since launch

Bajaj launched the 250cc Kawasaki Ninja in October last year and has already managed to sell 200 units. According to the company

As a result it is as popular among casual riders as it among serious enthusiasts. In addition to this, Bajaj hopes to sell 1000 units of the Kwacker in 12 months! Good going, Bajaj, is all what we can say right now!

Bajaj launches the New Pulsar 220 DTSi “S”

Bajaj has launched the naked street fighter avatar of its premium model Pulsar 220 DTSi - the Pulsar 220 S.

The only Major difference between the Standard Pulsar 220 DTSi 'F' and the S version is that it gets rid of the Quarter Fairing. It has the Standard Bikini Fairing (with tank scoops) which is present in all the versions of the Pulsar.

The Rear End of the bike remains same. The Pulsar 220 S even has the same exhaust chamber as the older Pulsar 220 DTSi.

Personally, we @GediJunction like the older version of the P220 with the quarter fairing because it lends the bike a distinct image. The bike is a major head-turner only because of its quarter fairing. Otherwise the P220 S and the P150 look almost just the same. Another thing worth noticing here is that, the bike does not have the Projector headlamps available in the Older P220 DTSi 'F'.

However, this could definitely help Bajaj in cutting down the cost of the new bike by about a couple of grand which would lend it amazing Value for Money!

According to some sources, the bike costs Rs 78K (Ex Showroom, Bangalore). We'll confirm this bit and post the update.

Suzuki looking to double its 2 wheeler production

Suzuki Motorcycle India (SMIPL) plans to double production capacity of its two-wheelers to three lakh units by the end of the current fiscal year. Suzuki Motorcycles currently manufacturers three kinds of bikes and a scooter at its 6.5-acre plot in Gurgaon, Haryana.

Acc to the company’s vice-president (marketing & sales) Atul Gupta 

“We are looking at a higher market share in the domestic market. With robust demand in the past few months, we will increase our monthly production capacity to 25,000 two-wheelers by March next year from the current 12,000 units. The fresh production would help cut down the waiting period on our flagship scooter model Access.”

The company’s sales grew 11 per cent in the April-October period. Its growth was driven from the rising demand for its 150 cc bike GS150R and 125cc scooter Access, yet it remains a small player in the seven million units-a-year Indian two-wheeler market.

-> In November last year, Suzuki had launched the Rs 12.5-lakh Hayabusa and Intruder in the domestic market and has sold over 110 units to date, with a the former taking a major share.

The company is also planning to expand the super bike portfolio with the import of few more bikes in the 800 cc category.

Royal Enfield Classic Models launched in Hyderabad

Motorcycles major Royal Enfield launched its new models – the Classic 350 & 500 in Hyderabad today.

These models were launched in Pune earlier this month. The price of the models (on-road) in Hyderabad and their mileage is as under -

• Classic 500 – 1.39 lakh, Mileage 30 Km/Litre
• Classic 350 – 1.09 lakh Mileage 45 Km/Litre

Royal Enfield Bullet Classic to be launched in Two Variants in India – on 4th November, 2009

The Royal Enfield Bullet Classic will be launched in two variants

a) 500cc Bullet Classic – This will be an EFi model. It’ll be priced between Rs 1.3 – 1.5 Lakhs. It’ll be available in only one color i.e green.

b) 300cc Bullet Classic – This would be a carbureted model. It’ll be priced between Rs 80-90 Thousand. It’ll be available in three colors – Red/Black/Silver.

Both the bikes have independent seats. (I’m not quite sure as to what that means, take a look at the picture to understand) and are sans kickstart i.e they’ll only have self-starting option.

New Upgraded Yamaha YZF-R15 Coming Soon for India

Yamaha YZF-R15 is visually one of the sportiest bikes in India. But still, there are some things about the R15 which people don’t like. In order to address these issues, Yamaha is expected to launch a New R15 with the following features

Honda launches new Aviator with 110cc engine

Honda has launched the next generation of the Aviator scooter with a 110cc engine in India. The new aviator has a host of other new features to attract buyers. Previously, the aviator had a 102cc engine. The scooter has been launched in two variants - Aviator Standard, Aviator Deluxe priced at Rs 42160 and Rs 47160 Respectively.

Launched, Finally : Kawasaki Ninja 250 R in India – Details, Specifications

The much awaited pocket Superbike from Bajaj-Kawasaki, the Ninja 250R is finally here at a price tag that may not please many – Rs 2,69,970 i.e Rs 2.69 Lakhs.

Some details from the launch -

• Colors Available are only Green & Black
• It will be imported as CKD from Thailand and will be assembled at Bajaj’s plant at Chakan (an 11% CKD duty will be imposed on the bike)
• Ninja will be available exclusively across 22 PBK (probiking) showrooms across the country, with more to come. It’ll only be serviced at Probiking showrooms, which is quite obvious. First consignment of Ninjas, which contains 50 bikes, have already reached PBK Showrooms.
• The booking amount for the Ninja is Rs 40,000
• The Bike Produces a Power of 33ps @ 11000 RPM, 22NM @ 8200 RPM
• There is also a carburetted version of the Ninja, but it wont be coming to India
• Suspension: 37 mm forks, Uni-Trak rear with 5-way preload adjustment.
• The brakes at the front & rear are 290 mm & 220 mm discs respectively.
• Tyre Size for Front & Rear – 17 inch 110/70, 17 inch 130/70 Respectively

Yamaha India’s sales rise Two-Fold this September

Yamaha Motor India’s sales have doubled to about 26000 units this September. It sold approx 10000 units in the same month last year.

Yamaha credits this rise in sales mainly to bikes like the FZ16 & FZS.

Acc to the company, Fazer, which was recently launched in July 2009, & the new R15 with cosmetic changes have been very well accepted by the people.

Modified Yamaha FZ-16s for Police in India

The FZ model for Indian police has been finalized after consultation with the State Police HQs in India. This model has been designed keeping in mind the requirements of the police department. Acc to the sources, the model has been approved and you should soon see the cops showing off their stylish FZs.

Yamaha has completed the modification work on the bikes & as soon as the Police departments place orders for the bikes, the production will start.

Exclusive Photos - Special Edition Yamaha Fazer, FZ16

Special editions of the Yamaha FZ16 and Fazer with different paint schemes have reached showroom floors in some parts of the country. These pictures were taken from a service centre in Kerela.

The idea behind such special editions is to cash in on the festive season rush. According to sources, there is no mechanical difference. The paint scheme combines blue, black and white, contrasting to the conventional plain red or black.

Spied - New Scooter from TVS Spy Pics

TVS Motors is armed and ready with their latest 'big' scooter for India.

The scooter is capable of doing upwards of 80kmph which means it may house a 100cc + engine. The front tyre looks delightfully wide compared to the previous models and even the engine does look bulkier than older models (at least in these pics.), so we hope the scoot is big on power as well.

The rear of the spied scooter resemble a lot to the Honda Activa and although the front looks comparatively tiny, we feel it is using a dummy front body for testing purpose. We reckon the scooter will boast great styling, going by TVS' recent launches and because of the existing competition in the market. The new scooter will compete with Honda Activa, Suzuki Access and the likes. The company which already has two models in the gearless scooter segment, the Scooty Pep and Scooty Streak, is looking at getting a bigger market share in this segment.

Two new Scooters by Mahindra launched in India - Rodeo & Duro

No prizes for guessing this, but the Nashik based auto major has launched two new gearless scooters - Rodeo and Duro

Like our capable correspondents reported earlier, Mahindra Two Wheelers has unveiled two new gearless scooters today - the Rodeo and the Duro.

'Mahindra Two Wheelers will design and market a range of scooters, value engineered motorcycles and high-end motorcycles for the Indian and global markets, helping it establish a robust, end-to-end two-wheeler business in every segment of the industry.' Read the Press Release issued by Mahindra. Probably we will be seeing the 'value engineered motorcycles' in the near future.

Coming back to the new scooters. Mahindra Rodeo – This is the macho one and is mainly aimed at the young urban male. The Rodeo comes packed with some good features and is powered by the 125cc, 8 bhp engine which does the duty in Flyte as well. Apart from the telescopic suspension and bigger 7AH battery, the scooter also has some interesting goodies like a colour changing digital console, trip meter, clock, tachometer, digital speedometer and odometer, and a USB port cum mobile charger to keep you connected even on the move. Thumbs up to Mahindra for this!

There's more. The horn rimmed headlights are practical and add to the vehicle’s stylish appearance. The mirror is adjustable and 'non-breakable' --- they move inward in case of an impact, resulting in almost no breakage. A unique ‘side stand buzzer’ reminds the rider that the side stand is still on. Just like the Flyte, it has the petrol tank inlet in front which allows the rider to refuel without having to alight from the scooter. The Rodeo boasts the largest illuminated storage space in its category, which allows you to even store food and perishable items as the petrol tank is not located inside.

The Rodeo is competitively priced at Rs. 41,299 (ex-showroom Pune). Available in seven shades – Fiery Black, Forest Green, Cappuccino Brown, Blazing Red, Golden Beige, Majestic Maroon and Deep Ocean Blue.

Now, lets talk about the Duro a.k.a. A ‘Made for Everyone’ Scooter. As the name suggests this looks like the sturdier of the two and has the same 125cc engine which is the biggest you can get at this price.

This nifty two wheeler sports a powerful battery, wide brakes, a large fuel tank, the widest wheelbase and a generous storage space to carry your world with you.

At Rs. 38,299 (ex-showroom Pune) the Mahindra Duro is a good value for money. The scooter is available in range of colours – Fiery Black, Pearl White, Cappuccino Brown, Mystique Grey, Majestic Maroon and Golden Beige.

Honda to launch 2 new bikes in India Next Year

Honda will be launching two new bikes next year.

One will be a 110cc mass market bike which will be launched in January Next year. The 110cc mass-market bike is codenamed the KWSA with the ‘A’ signifying its nascent development status.

The Bike Maker will then launch a 250cc bike sometime in 2011. Unlike the Ninja, Honda’s 250 will be manufactured here and not imported(CBU). Hopefully, that will keep the bike’s cost below 1.5 lakhs making it affordable for quite a substantial number of Indian bikers.
